Here we have one of my standard Size #1 (1 & 1/2″ diameter) ball padlocks, this one with with a lightly-etched wrought iron shackle. These days, we take wrought iron to mean any hammered or forged iron or steel material, however, the term “wrought iron” refers to a pre-industrial form of iron that shows a discernible grain structure. In a later post, I will say more about this wonderful old material.
